President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to serve Ghanaians with humility, integrity and dedication while urging citizens to actively contribute to the country’s development.

The President made the remarks while addressing the nation during Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration held on Friday, March 6, under the theme “Building Prosperity, Inspiring Hope.”

The event brought together government officials, diplomats, traditional leaders and members of the public to commemorate the country’s independence and reflect on its development journey.

Call for Collective National Effort

Speaking at the national ceremony, President Mahama acknowledged that Ghana’s path since independence has been marked by both progress and challenges, but emphasised that the nation’s resilience has remained a defining strength.

“The journey has not always been smooth. We have stumbled and often felt disappointed in ourselves, but we have never given up,” he said, noting that the determination of Ghanaians has sustained the country through difficult moments.

However, he stressed that the responsibility for Ghana’s progress cannot rest solely on the shoulders of government leadership.

According to him, national development requires the participation and commitment of citizens across all sectors of society. “But Ghana’s progress cannot rely solely on my leadership; it will depend on every citizen doing their part,” he added.

Inspiring Responsibility and Excellence

The President used the occasion to encourage Ghanaians to demonstrate excellence and dedication in their respective fields, whether in public service, private enterprise or community development.

“Wherever you are, whatever you do, do your part with excellence. Do it for Ghana, for Africa, and for the generations yet unborn.” - President John Dramani Mahama

President Mahama concluded by calling for unity and shared responsibility in building a prosperous future for the nation, expressing optimism that with collective effort, Ghana can continue to advance toward greater stability and inclusive development.
