President John Dramani Mahama is set to begin a two-day Resetting Ghana tour of the Northern Region on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen public engagement and assess the impact of government policies.
The visit marks the second leg of the nationwide tour, following an earlier stop in the Bono Region. It is designed to provide a platform for citizens, particularly traditional leaders and community stakeholders, to interact directly with the President and offer feedback on governance and development initiatives.
According to officials, the tour will allow residents to share their perspectives on policy implementation, ongoing projects, and pressing local concerns. The President is expected to be accompanied by ministers of state and heads of key public institutions.
The engagement aims to strengthen transparency and accountability while ensuring that government interventions align with the needs of communities across the region.
Project Inspections and Market Initiative
During the visit, President Mahama will also cut the sod for the construction of 24-hour markets, a flagship initiative under his administration’s economic agenda. He is further expected to inspect the progress of various development projects in the region.
These activities form part of broader efforts to stimulate local economies, improve infrastructure, and expand access to opportunities in underserved areas.
The tour will conclude on Sunday with a town hall meeting at the University of Development Studies in Tamale. The session will provide an open forum for government appointees to present updates on key interventions over the past year and respond to questions from the public.
Described as an opportunity for scrutiny and dialogue, the meeting is expected to reinforce the administration’s commitment to participatory governance and inclusive development.
The Northern Region tour underscores the government’s ongoing push to connect policy with lived experiences, as it seeks to refine its development agenda through direct citizen engagement.
