NACOC Says Beirut Cocaine Arrest Was 'Coordinated Controlled Operation'

The Narcotics Control Commission says the Beirut cocaine arrest involving a Syrian passenger who travelled from Accra was the result of a coordinated controlled delivery operation between Ghanaian and Lebanese authorities.

In a statement dated November 1, NACOC confirmed that the Syrian national was arrested at Rafic Hariri International Airport on Saturday, October 31, after arriving from Ghana with approximately 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage.

The Commission said the operation was designed to identify suspects at both ends of the trafficking route while gathering intelligence on the wider criminal network.

“This successful apprehension resulted from a coordinated controlled delivery exercise, carried out through close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.” - NACOC

NACOC disclosed that investigations are continuing in Ghana, with officers working to identify and arrest people suspected of involvement in the shipment.

According to the Commission, the operation was intended not only to intercept the drugs but also to help dismantle the broader transnational syndicate behind the consignment.

It said cooperation with Lebanese authorities demonstrated the importance of cross-border intelligence sharing in tackling international narcotics trafficking.

The statement was signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah.
