The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will stage a march to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, demanding answers over the arrest of its member, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye announced the planned protest, describing the arrest as troubling and insisting the party wants clarity on the circumstances surrounding the detention.
He argued that the development has raised concerns among party supporters and the wider public.
NPP Questions Arrest Procedure
Speaking in an interview, Nana Boakye maintained that Miracles Aboagye had received no prior invitation from EOCO and had not been informed that he was under investigation before his arrest.
"Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation," he said.
He alleged that the incident reflects what the party views as a growing pattern of using state institutions to intimidate political opponents, warning that such actions could undermine democratic governance.
At the same time, Nana Boakye stressed that the NPP does not oppose lawful investigations involving its members. According to him, the party's concern is that "due process must be followed" whenever security agencies undertake such actions.
Lawyers Yet to Gain Access
The latest development follows claims made by the NPP's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a Facebook post alleging that Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials with the assistance of Immigration officers at the Accra International Airport.
He further claimed that Miracles' lawyers had been denied access to their client, his whereabouts remained unknown, and no charges had been communicated to him.
EOCO had not publicly commented on the arrest or responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
The planned march is expected to bring party supporters to the anti-graft agency's premises as the NPP presses for answers over the detention while calling for transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
