Armed Suspect Arrested after Event Shooting at Journalists’ Dinner

A dramatic security breach unfolded Saturday night when an armed suspect stormed a high-profile journalists’ dinner attended by Donald Trump, triggering panic and a swift response from security agencies.

The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where guests reportedly dove under tables as chaos erupted near the ballroom entrance. Some attendees said they heard gunfire outside the venue.

Authorities identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from California. According to officials, he was armed with guns and knives and managed to breach security, running past metal detectors before being intercepted.

Security personnel, including members of the Secret Service’s counter-assault team, quickly subdued and arrested him. A law enforcement officer was shot during the incident but was protected by a bullet-resistant vest and is expected to recover.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed that the suspect faces preliminary charges related to firearm use and assaulting an officer, with additional charges likely.

President and Officials Secured

Following the breach, security agents moved swiftly to protect the president and other high-ranking officials. Vice President JD Vance was escorted out first, while agents initially shielded President Trump before guiding him and First Lady Melania Trump to safety.

Although uninjured, President Trump was taken to a secure suite within the hotel before later being transported back to the White House on security advice.

Authorities are continuing to piece together the full sequence of events, relying on eyewitness accounts, surveillance footage, and ongoing investigations.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about security at high-profile political gatherings, even in heavily protected environments. Officials say further updates will be provided as more details emerge about the suspect’s motives and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
