Access Bank Ghana Expands Local Ownership with Sale of 7.44% Stake

The Access Bank Ghana share sale has opened a new chapter in the bank's ownership structure after more than 12 million ordinary shares changed hands on the Ghana Stock Exchange, broadening local participation in one of the country's largest financial institutions.

Access Bank Ghana announced that 12,085,318 ordinary shares, representing 7.44 percent of its issued shares, have been successfully sold to a diverse group of investors.

The transaction was undertaken by Access Bank PLC, the bank's parent company, following all required regulatory approvals, including a no objection from the Bank of Ghana.

The deal is expected to increase Ghanaian participation in the bank while improving liquidity in its shares and expanding its investor base.

Strong Demand from Institutional Investors

Investor interest proved robust, with pension funds, institutional investors and high net worth individuals participating in the transaction.

The strong response reflects growing confidence in Ghana's financial sector at a time when the banking industry continues to regain momentum and attract investors seeking quality assets with long term growth potential.

The involvement of pension funds is particularly noteworthy. Their participation signals continued confidence in listed equities as investment managers increasingly seek stable opportunities capable of delivering sustainable returns while supporting the growth of Ghana's capital market.

The successful placement also positions Access Bank Ghana to benefit from a broader shareholder mix, a development market analysts often associate with improved trading activity and stronger investor engagement.

Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Local Participation

Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, Pearl Nkrumah, described the transaction as a strategic step towards strengthening local ownership and creating lasting value for shareholders.

"This transaction reflects our continued commitment to deepening local ownership and liquidity in our shares, consistent with the strategic priorities.

"We remain focused on converting the scale we have built into sustained value for all our stakeholders." - Pearl Nkrumah

Her remarks underline the bank's intention to ensure that more Ghanaians have the opportunity to own a stake in a major financial institution while supporting the continued development of the domestic capital market.

With the transaction now complete, Access Bank Ghana is expected to benefit from a wider and more diversified shareholder base, reinforcing its position on the Ghana Stock Exchange and strengthening investor confidence in the bank's long term growth strategy.

The successful share sale also highlights sustained demand for well capitalised financial institutions, even as Ghana's capital market continues to evolve.
