Motorists using the Accra Tema motorway traffic diversion corridor will have to adjust to new road arrangements following a temporary traffic management plan announced by the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA).
The Authority, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, said the new arrangement forms part of ongoing construction works on the Accra–Tema Motorway Extension Project. According to the GHA, the measures are necessary to facilitate T-beam launching works associated with the expansion of the Tete-Kwashi interchange bridge on the N1 highway.
In a statement issued to the public, the Authority explained that the construction activity will require the temporary closure of lanes on the N4, specifically the northbound carriageway from Accra towards Madina.
“This arrangement is necessary to facilitate the T-beam launching works for the expansion of the Tete-Kwashi interchange bridge on the N1,” the statement said.
Four-month adjustment to traffic flow
Under the temporary arrangement, the southbound carriageway from Madina to Accra, which currently consists of four lanes, will be reconfigured to allow traffic to flow in both directions.
The Authority indicated that the carriageway will be divided into two lanes in each direction to accommodate vehicles traveling between Accra and Madina.
“This temporary traffic adjustment will take effect from Monday, March 9, 2026, and is expected to last for a period of four months,” the statement noted.
Officials explained that the lane reduction is essential to create a safe working environment for construction workers while ensuring the safety of motorists using the road.
Motorists urged to cooperate with officials
The Ghana Highway Authority has advised road users to exercise patience and remain vigilant throughout the construction period.
Motorists have been urged to obey all traffic signs, follow directions from traffic management personnel and drive cautiously within the construction zone.
The Authority emphasized that cooperation from the public will be crucial to ensuring smooth traffic movement and minimizing disruptions during the project.
