President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the reconstruction of the La General Hospital will be completed by November 2027, following a recent site inspection.

He expressed confidence in the project’s timeline, commending contractors and workers for steady progress while urging them to maintain momentum.

“The hospital’s closure has placed significant pressure on nearby facilities,” he noted, stressing the urgency of restoring healthcare services.

Accompanied by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the President emphasized the importance of the project in improving healthcare access for residents in La and surrounding communities.

The Minister explained that although redevelopment began in 2020, funding challenges caused delays until work fully resumed in 2025. Once completed, the facility is expected to serve over 50,000 people.

President Mahama also outlined interim measures, including plans to repurpose the COVID-era emergency centre at Burma Camp to handle urgent cases and reduce treatment delays.

He added that the project aligns with the government’s broader healthcare agenda, particularly the Free Primary Healthcare initiative aimed at strengthening preventive care.

The renewed push, officials say, reflects efforts to rebuild critical health infrastructure and ease pressure on Ghana’s urban health system.
