Ghana and Poland are exploring ways to deepen Ghana-Poland trade and investment cooperation, with agribusiness, manufacturing, renewable energy, digital technology and infrastructure identified as priority sectors.
The discussions took place in Accra on Friday, October 30, when Poland’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Wojciech Zajączkowski, called on the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
He was received by Deputy Trade Minister Sampson Ahi on behalf of sector minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
Mr Ahi said the engagement offered an opportunity to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, noting that bilateral trade had expanded significantly.
Trade Between Ghana and Poland Grows
According to the Deputy Minister, Poland imported about US$160 million worth of goods from Ghana in 2025, representing growth of more than 64% over the previous year.
Ghana’s exports to Poland exceeded US$113 million, with cocoa, cocoa preparations and rubber products among the main commodities.
Mr Ahi said both countries could build on that trade by encouraging more investment in value addition, manufacturing, renewable energy and digital innovation.
He also highlighted infrastructure as an area with strong potential for Polish investors.
Railway Project Presented as Investment Opportunity
The Deputy Minister drew attention to Ghana’s proposed railway corridor linking Accra to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.
He said the project could improve regional trade and provide the landlocked Sahelian country with better access to Ghana’s ports.
Mr Ahi also raised concerns about visa difficulties faced by Ghanaian businesspeople and travellers, who currently have to access Polish consular services through Abuja, Nigeria.
He appealed to Poland to consider establishing consular services in Accra.
Mr Zajączkowski said his government would examine options to improve visa processing, including the possibility of deploying additional personnel from other diplomatic missions.
He, however, stopped short of committing to the immediate establishment of a Polish consulate in Ghana.
The discussions form part of efforts by both countries to expand commercial ties beyond traditional commodity trade and create more opportunities for investment.
