Ato Forson Meets Queen Máxima to Advance Financial Inclusion Agenda

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to building an inclusive financial system following a high-level meeting with Queen Máxima, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health.

The engagement focused on deepening financial inclusion and promoting what both leaders described as “financial health,” a concept that extends beyond access to financial services.

Dr Forson emphasised that the discussion moved past traditional financial metrics to address how systems can empower individuals.

“At its core, an economy is not a compilation of figures. It is a living expression of human agency,” he noted, stressing the importance of enabling citizens to withstand economic shocks and plan their futures with confidence.

He explained that Ghana’s economic strategy prioritises translating macroeconomic gains into tangible benefits for households and individuals.

Reset Agenda and Economic Inclusion

According to the Minister, the government’s reset agenda is anchored on ensuring that stability leads to security and growth creates real opportunities.

“Stability must translate into security for households. Growth must translate into opportunity for individuals,” he said, adding that access to financial services must ultimately preserve dignity.

Dr Forson highlighted efforts to build a system where inclusion is practical and participation is universal, ensuring that no Ghanaian is excluded from economic opportunities.

The meeting underscores Ghana’s broader push to strengthen financial systems that serve people effectively, rather than remain distant or difficult to navigate.

“Financial systems must… enable life to be lived with certainty, purpose, and hope,” he stated.

The engagement signals Ghana’s intention to align with global efforts to promote inclusive growth, while ensuring that economic progress is measured by improvements in people’s lives rather than headline figures alone.
