The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has impounded 40 vehicles at Tema Harbour following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered the use of fraudulent Drive from Port (DP) stickers.
In a statement issued on April 17, 2026, the Authority revealed that investigations also identified cases where genuine DP stickers had been improperly used on vehicles with mismatched documentation, raising serious compliance concerns within the importation process.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicles were imported by CFAO. However, the DVLA noted that an agent tasked with clearing the vehicles allegedly engaged in illegal practices, leading to the discrepancies discovered.
The Authority emphasised that the issue appears to stem from the conduct of intermediaries rather than the importing company itself, though investigations are ongoing to establish full accountability.
Surge and Sudden Drop Raise Red Flags
According to the DVLA, unusual trends in DP sticker issuance triggered the investigation. The Authority reported a sharp spike in issuance figures in late 2025, followed by a sudden decline in recent months.
“The Authority recorded a significant increase in the issuance of DP stickers from an average of 2,000 stickers per month to approximately 15,000 in October 2025,” the statement noted, adding that the subsequent drop prompted further scrutiny.
The DVLA disclosed that it is working closely with National Security to deepen investigations and clamp down on fraudulent activities within the vehicle registration system.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of Ghana’s vehicle administration processes, warning that individuals found culpable will face sanctions.
Urging stakeholders to adhere strictly to established procedures, the DVLA called on importers and agents to exercise due diligence in their operations.
The Authority assured the public that it will continue to strengthen monitoring systems and enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents and ensure transparency across the sector.
