GoldBod has signed a GH¢8.4 million agreement with Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to rehabilitate the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Heman Water Supply Systems, a move expected to improve access to potable water in parts of the Western and Central Regions.
The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony where both institutions described the initiative as an investment in environmental sustainability and critical public infrastructure.
GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi said the Board approved the project only after conducting an independent technical assessment to determine the scale of the work required.
"We are committed to responsible mining, environmental sustainability and improving the lives of Ghanaians," Mr. Gyamfi stated, adding that the intervention reflects GoldBod's broader commitment to supporting communities affected by environmental challenges.
Restoring ageing infrastructure
Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, welcomed the partnership, describing it as a timely boost for water production in the affected areas.
He said the rehabilitation project would help restore operations at facilities that have struggled for years, ultimately improving service delivery to households and businesses.
Mr. Mutawakilu expressed appreciation to GoldBod for supporting the initiative, noting that the investment would strengthen the reliability of water supply in beneficiary communities.
"Together, we are investing in sustainable solutions that protect the environment and strengthen critical public infrastructure," the partners said at the ceremony.
Both organisations said the project goes beyond infrastructure, stressing that it represents a shared commitment to protecting the environment while expanding access to essential public services.
