GSE Indices Fall as Trading Activity Slows

The Ghana Stock Exchange ended trading on Thursday, November 5, 2026, in negative territory, with both major equity indices declining as trading activity weakened sharply from the previous session.

The GSE Composite Index fell 1.03% to 13,966.79 points, down from 14,112.83 points on Wednesday.

Despite the daily decline, the broader market remains firmly positive for the year, with the Composite Index recording a year to date gain of 59.25%.

The GSE Financial Stock Index also slipped 1.07% to 7,268.98 points from 7,347.62 points. Its year to date return stood at 56.42%.

Equity trading volume drops 62%

Activity on the equity market slowed considerably during the session.

A total of 996,583 shares changed hands, representing a 62.04% decline from the 2.63 million shares traded in the previous session.

The value of shares traded also fell to GH¢6.96 million from GH¢11.04 million, a decline of 36.96%.

The weaker turnover came alongside losses in both benchmark indices, although the market’s strong year to date performance remains intact.

Fixed income turnover falls to GH¢911.9m

Trading on the fixed income market also declined, with total turnover falling 33.67% to GH¢911.85 million from GH¢1.37 billion recorded the previous day.

Treasury bills accounted for the largest share of activity, with GH¢485.96 million traded, down 24.21% from GH¢641.16 million.

DDEP bonds recorded turnover of GH¢420.43 million, representing a 40.77% decline from GH¢709.79 million.

Trading in corporate bonds fell sharply by 78.70% to GH¢4.97 million from GH¢23.33 million.

New Government of Ghana notes and bonds were the only major category to record an increase, with turnover rising 54.92% to GH¢496,200.

There was no trading in the older Government of Ghana notes and bonds category, compared with GH¢78,000 recorded in the previous session.

The November 5 market summary therefore showed weaker activity across both equities and fixed income, even as the stock market continued to hold substantial gains accumulated since the beginning of the year.
