IMF to Begin Ghana's Final Review on April 29 Ahead of Programme Exit

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund is expected in Accra on April 29, 2026, to commence Ghana’s final review under its Extended Credit Facility programme.

The mission, which will officially begin engagements on April 30, marks a critical step as Ghana prepares to exit the IMF-supported programme in August 2026 after completing a three-year reform cycle.

The review will assess Ghana’s overall economic performance, with particular attention to delayed targets and the implementation of structural reforms.

Key discussions are expected to centre on fiscal developments, especially within the energy sector, alongside debt management strategies and government expenditure.

Officials will also evaluate budget allocations to priority areas such as social protection to ensure support for vulnerable populations remains adequate.

A major outcome of the mission will be the determination of prior actions required under the sixth review, which are essential for unlocking the final tranche of IMF support.

The assessment will ultimately decide whether Ghana has met the necessary benchmarks to successfully conclude the programme.

The visit underscores the final phase of Ghana’s engagement with the IMF, with policymakers aiming to consolidate gains and transition toward sustained economic stability beyond the programme period.
