President John Mahama will attend the 2026 One Health Summit in France and hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on health, trade, education and security.

According to a statement from the Presidency Communications Office dated April 6, 2026, President Mahama’s visit follows an invitation from President Macron and will combine multilateral health diplomacy with talks aimed at deepening Ghana-France relations.

The President is expected to attend the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon before proceeding to Paris for official meetings at the Élysée Palace.

Mahama to Co-Chair Summit High-Level Segment

At the summit, President Mahama is set to play a prominent role as co-chair of the High-Level segment alongside President Macron.

The event will bring together heads of state, health ministers and international experts to examine key issues affecting global health systems, food sustainability and coordinated responses to emerging health threats.

The statement noted that Mahama, described as “the founder and driving force behind the Accra Reset Initiative,” will also deliver two keynote addresses during the summit.

One of the speeches will be presented during a meeting on global health architecture, which will be co-chaired by Macron and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

That session is expected to focus on reforms to global health initiatives and a political declaration on strengthening international health cooperation.

Bilateral Talks to Focus on Cooperation

Beyond the summit, attention will also turn to bilateral diplomacy. On Wednesday, April 8, President Mahama is scheduled to hold formal talks with Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.

Discussions are expected to centre on strengthening ties between Ghana and France, with cooperation likely to span health, education, trade, investment and regional security.

Before that meeting, Mahama will also be received by Gérard Larcher at the French Senate.

The trip underscores Ghana’s effort to remain visible in global policy discussions, particularly in health and international cooperation.

It also reflects the Mahama administration’s attempt to combine diplomacy with policy advocacy on issues that have direct implications for development and security.

President Mahama is expected to return to Accra shortly after his meeting with Macron.
