President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he will deliver Ghana’s national statement and host two high-level events.
Mahama at the UN General Assembly will centre Ghana’s diplomatic agenda on global development reform, reparatory justice, investment and stronger international partnerships.
This year’s gathering is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
Accra Reset takes global stage
On Monday, September 21, President Mahama will host a high-level event on the Accra Reset under the theme, “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
The meeting is expected to bring together world leaders for discussions on Africa’s renewal and changes needed to make the international development system deliver better results.
A second Ghana-led event will take place on Wednesday, September 23. It will focus on moving reparatory justice beyond declarations towards practical international cooperation, including the return and restitution of African cultural properties and heritage.
President Mahama will deliver Ghana’s official statement during the General Debate on Thursday, September 24.
Investment and diaspora engagements
The President’s schedule also includes meetings with the UN Secretary-General, world leaders and senior executives of multinational companies.
He will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and engage business leaders at a United States and Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
Mahama is also expected to speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and participate in the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
On Friday, September 25, he will meet Ghanaians living in New York at a town hall to discuss his administration’s development agenda.
First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Foreign Affairs Minister, cabinet ministers and senior government officials are accompanying the President.
