The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has signed a landmark agreement with SENTUO Group Limited to advance agro-industrial development in Ghana through major investments in processing and input supply infrastructure.
The agreement, formalised through three Memoranda of Understanding in Accra, will see the establishment of a modern cashew processing plant and a fertiliser manufacturing facility, alongside the rollout of farmer support centres nationwide.
Central to the partnership is the construction of a state-of-the-art cashew processing plant in Sampa. The facility is expected to process both cashew nuts and apples, reflecting a shift toward full value chain utilisation.
Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku described the initiative as a turning point in the country’s agricultural strategy.
“We are ready to industrialize Ghana’s agriculture… we are moving from exporting raw commodities to building a value-driven agro-industrial economy.” - Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku
The fertiliser plant is also expected to strengthen domestic production capacity, reduce reliance on imports, and improve access to essential inputs for farmers.
Expanding Farmer Support Nationwide
As part of the agreement, SENTUO will establish 30 Farmer Service Centres across the country. These centres will provide access to agricultural inputs, mechanisation services, and technical expertise, helping to improve productivity and efficiency within the sector.
The initiative aligns with government’s broader Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda, which prioritises modernisation and increased output.
Authorities say the projects are expected to create significant employment opportunities, particularly for young people, while supporting rural development.
Hon. Opoku emphasised that agro-industrialisation remains critical to boosting farmer incomes and strengthening the economy. By integrating production with processing, the government aims to retain more value within the country.
Investor Confidence and Long-Term Commitment
Chairman of SENTUO Group, Xu Mingjuan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Ghana, noting that its decision to expand investments has been reinforced by government policies such as the 24-hour economy initiative.
He expressed confidence in Ghana’s investment climate, adding that engineers are already on site to begin preliminary work.
