The fishing licenses reinstatement for four industrial trawling vessels has been welcomed by the Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA), which says the move reflects regulatory fairness and strengthens confidence in the governance of Ghana’s fisheries sector.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Association expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture for restoring the licenses of MV Long Xiang 607, MV Long Xiang 608, MV Meng Xin 10, and MV Florence 2.
GITA said the ministry’s decision, communicated in a press release dated April 2, 2026, demonstrates the value of constructive engagement between regulators and operators in the fishing industry.
Confidence restored in fisheries governance
According to the Association, the reinstatement has reassured industry players and reinforced confidence in a regulatory system that values due process and structured dialogue.
“The reinstatement reflects a balanced approach to enforcement and stakeholder engagement, which is critical to the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s fisheries sector,” the statement said.
The Association noted that the decision sends a positive signal to operators and investors within the industry, particularly at a time when sustainable resource management and regulatory compliance remain central to the future of marine fishing in Ghana.
Commitment to compliance and reform
GITA also used the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to working closely with the ministry and other relevant agencies to ensure full compliance with fisheries laws and standards.
The Association pledged support for ongoing efforts to improve governance, strengthen monitoring systems and encourage responsible fishing practices across the industrial trawling subsector.
It stressed that collaboration between the public and private sectors remains essential for improving operational standards and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the country’s marine resources.
The development is being seen as a significant step toward rebuilding trust between regulators and industry stakeholders as Ghana continues efforts to protect fish stocks while supporting legitimate commercial operations.
GITA also extended Easter goodwill to the Minister and staff of the Ministry, expressing hope for continued wisdom and success in managing the sector in the national interest.
