The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that fuel stocks in Ghana remain adequate despite concerns about developments in the global energy market.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 11, the Authority said it had taken note of reports and public commentary suggesting that global energy market developments could affect petroleum supply and pricing in the country.
However, the regulator emphasised that the national fuel supply situation remains stable.
“The Authority wishes to assure the general public that Ghana currently has adequate stocks of petroleum products, and the national fuel supply situation remains stable and firmly under control.” - National Petroleum Authority (NPA)
National supply remains stable
According to the NPA, a comprehensive review of national petroleum stock levels and supply arrangements was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and other industry stakeholders.
The review confirmed that sufficient quantities of key petroleum products are available to meet both current and projected demand.
The Authority indicated that products such as petrol, diesel, aviation turbine kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas are adequately stocked across the country.
Officials said the government continues to maintain close oversight of the petroleum supply chain to ensure that fuel remains available in all regions.
Government strengthens supply monitoring
The NPA also highlighted ongoing measures by government agencies to maintain stability within the fuel market.
According to the statement, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the NPA are working closely with international oil trading companies, bulk import, distribution and export companies, BOST Energies and local refineries to ensure the timely importation and distribution of petroleum products.
These efforts include continuous monitoring of national stock levels and improved coordination with industry operators.
The Authority added that it is strengthening supply planning and price monitoring mechanisms to address potential risks linked to fluctuations in the global petroleum market.
No need for panic buying
The NPA has therefore urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, assuring consumers that the petroleum supply chain is operating normally.
“There is no cause for alarm or panic buying, as the petroleum supply chain continues to function normally and adequate stocks are available nationwide.” - National Petroleum Authority (NPA)
The regulator reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring reliable fuel supply, transparent market operations and the protection of consumer interests while keeping the public informed about any significant developments in the sector.
