Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama has assured Ghanaians of Cedi stability during the Christmas period, expressing confidence that the exchange rate will remain favourable through the festive season.
Speaking at the African Virtual Assets Summit 2026 on Monday, November 2, Dr Asiama said the central bank remained confident about the local currency’s performance.
“What I can promise is a good Christmas as far as the exchange rate is concerned. We will have a good Christmas,” he said.
Cedi Trades Around GH¢11.62 to Dollar
The assurance comes as the Cedi continues to trade below GH¢12 to the US dollar on the interbank market.
Latest Bank of Ghana reference rates cited on Monday put the dollar at GH¢11.6142 for buying and GH¢11.6258 for selling.
The pound sterling was quoted at GH¢15.5549 for buying and GH¢15.5704 for selling, while the euro stood at GH¢12.9559 for buying and GH¢12.9678 for selling.
The central bank’s own exchange-rate data has shown the Cedi trading around the GH¢11 range against the dollar in recent months.
Dr Asiama’s comments are likely to draw attention from importers, retailers and consumers as foreign exchange demand typically rises ahead of the Christmas trading season.
